Call for Papers themes

Six thematic areas open for submission

Theme I Populist discourse strategies in EU member states

Comparative and case-study analyses of how populist actors construct, frame, and disseminate political messages across national contexts.

Theme II Disinformation, manipulation, and media literacy

Empirical and theoretical contributions on the production, circulation, and reception of misleading content, and on responses through education and regulation.

Theme III EU public opinion and democratic legitimacy

Studies drawing on Eurobarometer or comparable data sources on citizen support, trust, and the legitimation of EU policies in periods of contestation.

Theme IV Populism in the 2024 European Parliament campaigns

Analyses of party platforms, candidate communication, voter mobilisation, and post-election coalition dynamics across member states.

Theme V Constitutional citizenship and democratic resilience

Conceptual and legal contributions on rights, membership, and institutional safeguards against democratic backsliding within the Union.

Theme VI Counter-populist communication strategies

Practical and analytical studies on how political actors, civil society, and media organisations construct effective responses to populist mobilisation.

Selected papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Global Politics and Current Diplomacy (ISSN-L 2344-6293), a peer-reviewed academic journal indexed in international databases (BDI).

The conference is open to all interested participants — researchers, doctoral candidates, MA and BA students, and teachers. Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required by 15 May 2026.

1. Your full name

2. Your institutional affiliation (university, school, organisation)

3. Your participation category — one of: speaker, debater in Debate Competition, or audience member

4. Whether you intend to attend all three days or only specific sessions

Confirmed participants will receive the detailed programme, room locations, and any additional logistical information by email approximately one week before the conference.
